This project consisted of increasing plant design capacity from 16.8 to 22.3 MGD with a peak of 52 MGD. The major elements of the project included a new influent pump station with three (3) 96" diameter enclosed screw pumps and space for a fourth; screenings building with a bar rack, two (2) fine screens with compactors and odor control equipment; grit structure with two (2) 19¹ diameter grit collectors, pumps and classifiers, one (1) primary clarifier structure with chain and flight collectors, modifications to primary clarifier effluent flume serving new and four existing primary clarifiers; one (1) first stage aeration tank with coarse bubble air diffusers, one (1) secondary clarifier structure with chain and flight collectors, one (1) nitrification reactor containing coarse bubble diffusers; a final clarifier distribution structure, two (2) 110¹ diameter circular final clarifiers with rapid sludge-removal draft tube clarifier mechanisms; a Nitrification Return Sludge Pump Station with two (2) 9000 gpm VFD driven vertical centrifugal pumps; chlorine contact tank with effluent re-aeration ladder; dechlorination building with sulfur dioxide feed equipment; addition to existing Dewatering Building, including [furnishing and installing one (1) centrifuge and related equipment, numerous junction boxes, flumes and cast-in-place channels to carry flow between various process structures.
Plant control consisted of various field instruments to monitor plant operations and a new data acquisition system, new and replacement local control panels, and an extensive gas monitoring system. Extensive selective demolition of influent and effluent channels was required prior to building new structures. Many locations in the primary and secondary clarifiers required the design and erection of temporary bulkheads to maintain flow while widening the same channel in which the bulkheads were placed.
W. Rogers Company (WRC) self-performed 80% of the work on the project. WRC drilled, shot, excavated and disposed of approximately 45,000 CY of rock and excavated, placed, redistributed or otherwise disposed of approximately 25,000 CY of earth. W. Rogers Company installed and tested 4,500' of exterior ductile iron pipe with fittings in sizes 3" to 36", a third of which was larger than 20"; installed and tested 2,300' of Pressure Concrete Cylinder Pipe in sizes 28" through 78"; installed and tested more than 4,000' of small diameter PVC water and chemical feed piping. Concrete operations included placing and curing more than 11,000 CY of structural concrete. This required the construction, placement and removal of more than 225,000 SF of forming surface and finishing of approximately 55,000 SF of surface.
